First through the door of the newly opened Store was Nancy Aitken. She lives in the village and is a regular customer for general shopping and Post Office services.
The sales area is about 8 times larger than the old shop. It is already well stocked with all manner of goods. More will be added to meet the demands of regular customers and service the needs of passing traffic and people on holiday in the area.
The creation of Heughan House (formally The Enterprise Centre during the build period) by the Board and members of Auchencairn Initiative was recently the recipient of an award for their efforts. The majority of the credit should go to David Dunstan who had led the project from inception and personally carried a tremendous workload for several years. He is of course delighted with the outcome.
Alison Parker's shop (while in the old premises) has been declared a Regional Finalist in the Robert Wiseman Dairies Neighbourhood Shop of the Year Competition.
Is this decision deserved? Too right it is - Alison provides a first class vital service to the community and always goes that 'bit outside the box' in supporting local events and enterprises. Things will no doubt get even better when she moves into the new larger premises in the Enterprise Centre presently under construction in Main Street. She's a bit shy about blowing her own trumpet so follow the link below for a copy of the Award and of course further details about the shop and Post Office.
Alison also stocks a series of postcards showing local scenery.
Orders taken for daily papers (excluding Sunday papers), magazines, bread, rolls and milk. Well stocked for casual sales, including fresh vegetables, eggs, Auchencairn Smokehouse Cheese, butcher meat, bakery and staple products.
If you're coming here on holiday why not call Alison in advance and have your supplies waiting ready and fresh for collection.
