Outings

On Wednesday 21st May 08 three members and two guests visited Threave Castle near Castle Douglas.
ImageIt can only be reached by foot and then boat as it is situated about half a mile from the car park and is located on an island in the River Dee. It is thought that Fergus, Lord of Galloway first built the castle after 1000AD but suggested that a settlement may have existed on the island as far back as 500AD. A full history can be obtained on www.historic-scotland.gov.uk .
